Packaged set of two paired 12” wooden rulers, made in U.S.A. of American-grown basswood.

Great Women Rulers of Science includes women who have worked (or continue to work) in fields as diverse as Biochemistry, Anthropology, Genetics, Ecology and Computer Science. The image at the top of the ruler is Marie Curie (1867-1934), who became the first woman to win a Nobel prize in any discipline when she won the prize for Physics in 1903. She went on to win the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1911, making her the first person and only woman to win two Nobel Prizes. She is also one of only two people to win the prize in two different fields. Marie’s daughter Irène Joliot-Curie (1897-1956) won the prize for Chemistry in 1935, making the two the only mother-daughter pair to win Nobel Prizes.

Rulers of Science is a list of women and men who have made important contributions in a number of scientific disciplines including Medicine, Astronomy, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology and Psychology. The image at the top of the ruler is Albert Einstein, known, among many other accomplishments, for his Theory of Relativity. Our illustration of him is somewhat reminiscent of the 1947 photograph taken of him by Orren Jack Turner, now in the Library of Congress.

The two rulers are packaged together in a sleeve with a beautifully designed and printed backer card that provides additional information about the rulers and the images we’ve printed on them. The set makes a terrific gift!
