First Ladies & Presidents Pair
Packaged set of two paired 12” wooden rulers, made in U.S.A. of American-grown basswood.
The First Ladies Ruler is interesting because the role of First Lady of the United States has never been officially codified or defined. We tend to think if her as the wife of the president. But in the past, the term was also commonly used to describe the role of White House hostess, which is the interpretation that we have taken on this ruler. The image at the top of the ruler is Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy (1929-1994), First Lady from 1961 until the death of her husband in 1963. She is still regarded as an international icon of style and culture.
United States Rulers is a list of all American presidents. Our image of George Washington (1732-1799) is based on one of the approximately 130 portraits of the first president painted by Gilbert Stuart (1755-1828). You’ll find another copy of this image on the dollar bill.
The two rulers are packaged together in a sleeve with a beautifully designed and printed backer card that provides additional information about the rulers and the images we’ve printed on them. The set makes a terrific gift!
